Rebuilding After Returning from Khartoum: Ann’s Journey of Transformation

My name is Ann Lawernce Paulino, and I am a mother of four children - two girls and two boys. My husband and I are both returnees from Khartoum, Sudan.

When we first came back to South Sudan, life was tough because neither of us had any employment. We had lived in Khartoum for quite a long time and didn't realise how difficult life was going to be once we arrived here.

Things began to change when I attended the CMS-Africa Women Empowerment Programme (WeP) which was conducted here in Wau in 2023.

Through the training, I gained new ideas and was encouraged to start a business using the skills and talents God has given me. I have always been skilled at making pastries and cakes, so I decided to start baking at home and selling them to the community. Alongside this, I also began growing seedlings of different plants for sale.

By God’s grace, and with the business skills that I obtained from the programme, I am now able to make small profits that help me support my family. I can see a big difference in our lives compared to when we returned empty-handed.

My dream is to one day establish a proper pastry shop, allowing me to expand my business, provide for my children, and be a blessing to others in my community.
