Nordilia’s small steps in business after CMS-Africa’s WeP training
My name is Nordilia Brython. I am a wife and a mother, and I live here in Shinyanga, Tanzania. My journey in business started very small with just mandazis. I used to prepare them in my kitchen and sell them in front of our house or door-to-door, hoping to make a little income for my family. It was not easy, but I kept going because I believed something good could come out of it.
After attending the training on Women Empowerment with CMS-Africa, my eyes were opened to new opportunities. I decided to invest some of the money I got from the mandazi to buy ducks, and before long, they started laying eggs. Some of the eggs I sold, while others hatched, multiplying my flock.
One of the most important lessons I learned from the training was to involve my family in what I am doing. I shared the knowledge and the vision with my husband, and to my joy, he began supporting me, especially with capital to grow the business. That partnership has made a big difference, and I no longer feel like I am carrying the burden alone.
Today, I still make mandazis, but my dream is to increase my production and begin working with restaurants and other outlets so that more people can enjoy my products.
CMS-Africa implements the Women Empowerment Programme (WeP) in Tanzania in partnership with the Episcopal Relief and Development.
