International Director

About CMS-Africa

CMS-Africa is a leading pan-African Christian mission movement, headquartered in Nairobi, whose mission is to transform nations by equipping the church with a biblical worldview. We work across Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, Madagascar and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with Burundi being added, and are entering an exciting new season under our 2025–2035 strategy — including a shift towards a facilitator and sub-granting model that funds and builds the capacity of local churches and partners to lead.

The opportunity

As our long-serving International Director completes eight years of faithful service, the Board is seeking a visionary, spiritually grounded leader to take the mission into its next decade. The International Director is our most senior executive, accountable to the Board, providing spiritual and strategic leadership across our four mission pillars — Evangelism & Discipleship; Christian Leadership & Household Transformation; Stewardship of Creation; and Sustainable Mission Support Services.

You will lead a growing multi-country team, steward a budget from approximately US$1 million and growing, deepen partnerships, mobilise resources for long-term sustainability, strengthen governance with the Board, and represent CMS-Africa on national, regional and global platforms.

Who we are looking for

  • A mature, personally articulated Christian faith and evident spiritual maturity.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ senior leadership in faith-based or mission-oriented organisations.
  • A strong track record in strategy, governance and organisational development.
  • Proven success in fundraising and diversifying income, including institutional grants and locally generated income.
  • Experience leading diverse teams across cultural and denominational boundaries.
  • A master’s degree in theology, Development, Strategic Leadership or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Terms of appointment

The role is offered on a five-year term, renewable on performance and resources, based in Nairobi with hybrid working. The successful candidate will begin in early Q4 2026, with a handover overlap with the outgoing International Director.
