CMS-Africa Undertake Capacity-Building on Savings With Education (SWE) Groups Formation
The CMS-Africa Programmes Team has undertaken a five-day capacity-building training on Savings With Education (SWE) group formation, aimed at strengthening the organisation’s approach to household transformation and Christian leadership.
The training, held at Savelberg Retreat Centre in Nairobi, brought together 37 CMS-Africa programmes team members, including the secretariat, trainers, and programme champions from across Kenya, and was conducted in partnership with the Episcopal Relief & Development (ADS) and the Anglican Development Services - Nyanza (ADS Nyanza).
Through this initiative, CMS-Africa seeks to enhance her ability to implement community-based Transformation Groups – platforms designed to combine savings with education, accountability, and discipleship. These groups are expected to promote financial inclusion, improve livelihoods, and strengthen community resilience while advancing the organisation’s mission of holistic transformation.
Speaking during the training, CMS-Africa’s Head of Programmes, Henry Mwaniki, underscored the importance of the SWE model in achieving sustainable impact.
“This training marks an important step in our journey towards empowering communities from within,” said Mwaniki. “By forming and supporting Transformation Groups, we are equipping families and communities to grow spiritually, socially, and economically.”
The mission agency plans to roll out the SWE model across its operational areas in Africa, enabling communities to take ownership of their development while deepening discipleship and stewardship practices.
